Our Commitment to Sustainability

A unique aspect of our culture is the growing focus on sustainability throughout the organization. To advance these efforts, Lindt USA recently created a new “Environment Pillar” as part of its Lindt Production Way methodology, which will focus on continuously reducing environmental impacts associated with energy use, water and waste.

In addition to Global Initiatives, The Lindt USA Green Team focuses on outreach, education, and engagement to raise awareness around sustainability and promote steps each of us can take to integrate sustainable practices into our lives.

Bean to Bar: The Journey of our Cocoa Beans

As a chocolate manufacturer, sustainability is a really important topic for Lindt & Sprüngli. Going forward, our focus on sustainability is only going to increase further—both globally and here at Lindt USA.

Traceability

Lindt & Sprüngli is one of the few chocolate manufacturers producing from bean to bar – from the selection of fine cocoa varieties, sourcing of cocoa beans, and production of cocoa mass (also called cocoa liquor) to the finished product.

For us, traceability begins on the cocoa farm and does not end until the beans reach our production sites. We only purchase cocoa beans from countries and farmers which are part of our own sustainability program – the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program. The traceability of our cocoa bean supply chain is the key foundation of our Program for improving living conditions in the growing countries in the long term. As a "bean to bar" manufacturer, we have extensive expertise, including in the selection of high-quality beans, the technological know-how in the processing of our own cocoa mass as well as the chocolate production at our own factories. This differentiates us from most other chocolate manufacturers and enables us to produce our premium quality chocolate.
