Position Purpose:

As a Controls Intern, you will join our dynamic Engineering Team to help drive the technology behind our premium chocolate production. This role is uniquely flexible, designed to adapt to your specific field of study—whether that is Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Data Science. You will bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application by working on assignments tailored to your strengths, ranging from hands-on troubleshooting and digital process improvement to unlocking actionable insights from our equipment data. Your overarching mission is to bring a fresh perspective to our controls environment, helping us standardize systems, optimize workflows, and leverage data to enhance our operational excellence.

What To Expect as a Lindtern:

Our twelve-week Lindternship program offers hands-on experience allowing undergraduate and graduate students to gain practical skills and contribute to projects that directly impact our business. During the summer, interns will be paired with a mentor, attend professional career development workshops/sessions and attend networking events to meet additional team members.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Technical Operations & Systems Support

  • Partner with Controls Technicians in the production environment to gain hands-on experience troubleshooting equipment and executing routine maintenance tasks.
  • Gain exposure to industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs) by supporting the team in daily operational challenges and technical problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and engineering teams to understand the root causes of downtime and assist in implementing technical solutions.

Data Analytics & Performance Optimization

  • Utilize the vast amounts of data generated by our production equipment to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop data models or dashboards that transform raw machine data into clear, actionable intelligence.
  • Apply statistical analysis or data science techniques to support predictive maintenance efforts or optimize control system performance.

Documentation, Standardization & Digital Strategy

  • Spearhead the organization of our digital technical documents and electrical schematics, creating a sustainable process to ensure they remain up-to-date and accessible.
  • Assist in the standardization of alarms within the Ignition platform, applying consistent configurations to correct existing disparities and guide future setups.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify gaps in current documentation and implement logical solutions to improve information retrieval and schematic digitization.

Project Engineering & Implementation

  • Own a dedicated engineering or data project, including developing the scope, sourcing necessary materials, and ensuring alignment with key stakeholders.
  • Apply logical thinking and self-motivation to move a project from the conceptual phase to implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure your project deliverables meet the actual needs of the business and production floor.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with a computer and with MS software

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Basic scripting (e.g., Python) or database query knowledge (SQL).
  • Introductory experience with industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs).
  • Strong logical thinking and self-motivation.

Education:

  • Be a Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited University Degree Program - Preferably with a focus on Automation/Control Systems, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or similar.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills

Total Rewards:

Compensation Range: $20 an hour

Lindt USA’s salary range reflects market rates based on our size, revenue, and location. Starting pay is determined using a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience as well as market conditions. A bonus and/or long-term incentive may be included as part of this compensation package.
