Production Planning Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Purpose:

The individual in this position is responsible for the management of the production planning and deployment processes. This individual manages a team which develops the multi-level production, co-packing and deployment plans in order to provide the correct supply aligning with the operational demand plan and inventory targets. Additionally, this individual must manage through the various capacity constraints as they become known; equipment, labor and/or material. This role must be proactive, concise and effective with communication of supply issues and risks to the the impacted stakeholders and management. Position requires a holistic thinker, proven senior level facilitiator across operations and supply chain, and capability of effectively influence leadership.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Production Planning

  • Manages the production planning process that supports the consolidated demand plan of Wholesale, Retail, and Export channels in annual, monthly, weekly and daily plans.
  • Overesees the development of the production and co-packing plans. Takes into consideration capacity constraints, seasonality, new product introductions, product shelf life, aging/excess inventory, new equipment installations and over-all business growth.
  • Responsible for 12-month rolling master schedule which is rough cut capacity constrained to the critical work centers which support the budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Initiates plans and processes which minimize production cost through effective utilization of labor, equipment, facilities, material and capital. Propose continuous improvement initiatives and opportunities to improve overall business operations.

Deployment Planning

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate inventory transfer shipments to the network Distribution Centers. Must support expected customer service level and mitigate inventory aging while ensuring inventory levels reside within aligned constraints.
  • Responsible for providing the forecasted pallet positions, customer and deployment volume by distribution center.
  • Oversees the setting of safety stock and safety time targets as well as minimum and maximum planning quantities to manage portfolio with SKU ABC segmentation in mind for all distribution center locations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Lead cross functional team meetings (i.e. Demand Planning, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Consumer Service and Customer Service) to communicate the production plan and the impact of demand changes and any constraints in supply.
  • Develop scenarios and articulate recommendations of delivery strategies to Operations Leadership team by balancing service level and cost, while insuring business needs are met.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities through the tracking of key metrics in order to streamline processes and improve accuracy and efficiency within operations.
  • Lead staff in proper and timely communication, training, achieving goals, appropriate turnaround of tasks requested by senior management, and performance evaluation

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience:

  • 5-8 years' experience in supply chain management required
  • 3+ years of leadership experience preferred
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, positively influence and train direct reports, peers and others
  • Strong communication skills, both in written and verbal form

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Solid demonstrated knowledge of supply chain theory, planning systems and related processes
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office products & SAP
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or related field
  • Master's degree in related field preferred

Other Requirements:

  • APICS Certification preferred
  • Travel -- 5%
